We often don’t realize how important having a purpose is until we cease to have one. Many of us have experienced living with intense purpose—law school, raising children, deployments, working three jobs to pay the bills, etc. After we have accomplished our intensely pursued purpose, we many times feel aimless—like the biggest part of who we have been for years–is gone. If you’ve felt the silence of the “empty nest” or went from living in the vigilance of the enemy fire to the relaxation of peace time—then you know what I’m talking about. God fills that hole with a purpose which goes beyond any fulfillment we’ve ever had and accomplishes goals we’ve never imagined possible. The Creator of all things has a purpose for us which defies our understanding! Job said this of God: “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.” (Job 42:2-3) We are honored to have been chosen for greatness which we don’t even comprehend; therefore, we shouldn’t settle for anything less just because it isn’t within our ability to predict the result. When we pursue God, we find a purpose which never ends, never leaves us hanging and always completely satisfies us because it’s what we were created to accomplish. “Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you…everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” (Isa. 43:5, 7) We don’t always know the daily details of what it looks like to live for the glory of God; however, why would we question one as intelligent as God? He leads and we follow? Do we simply want to spend our life following one whose intelligence is as limited as our own? Our Creator knows everything and has a divine purpose for us. Finding it isn’t complicated—seek Him! When we seek Him, He gives us what we need to know—AND–a purpose in the most exciting mission of our lifetime!
