There is no one we can depend upon like we can depend upon God and when we depend upon Him, we too, become more dependable. When people fail us, it is a great opportunity for us to realize that we need to strengthen our relationship with God because He never fails us. When we follow God, He promises to take care of us and we can better take care of others! When Israel finally decided to follow Him God into the promised land, they had God’s promise that they could depend upon: “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” (Deut. 31:8) It is only when we walk away from Him that we begin to wonder if anyone else has our back because we realize how vulnerable we are on our own. After all, we are only one breath away from death, one slamming door away from heartbreak, one health problem away from disability, one government failure away from financial ruin, one bad decision away from imprisonment, one car wreck away from having our life completely changed, etc. Who would be with us if any of these things happened? Our life can be drastically altered in one moment of time. We are precariously vulnerable. However, when we allow nothing to come between us and God, He becomes our strength and our confidence is no longer completely based in the things we can lose like our health, wealth or other people. When our strength is from Him, then we have nothing to fear except separation from Him! “We are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 8:37-39) Remaining close to God is a daily decision; therefore, so is living in His strength! After you’ve lived WITH Him, then you never want to live in the vulnerability of being WITHOUT Him. No one is as dependable as He is and when we are with Him, He gives us the inner strength to be confident, strong AND dependable!
