There is no one or nothing we should EVER place our hope in above God—otherwise, we WILL be disappointed. God is the only one Who will never fail us; therefore, He should be the greatest object of our hope! We place our hope in the love of another human, yet that person is a frail sinner like us and will certainly disappoint us. We place our hope in wealth which can be lost and will never provide our heart with lasting comfort. We work to compile a lifetime of accomplishments and hope that people will recognize and appreciate us. We place our hope in our reputation when it could be swept away at any time by whims, lies, popular opinion or our own bad choices. The Psalmist wrote: “Surely a man goes about as a shadow! Surely for nothing they are in turmoil; man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather! And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you.” (Psa. 39:6-7) God is the only One worthy of our unfettered hope. He is called the “God of hope” and when our hope is placed in Him, His Spirit gives us unlimited hope! The Book of Romans says: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Rom. 15:13) Can we fathom hoping in One Who will never fail us??? Surely, when it comes to those in whom we have placed our hope, there is none who compares to Him! So why, then, do we relegate our hope to anyone less than God? Ah, it is most likely because we do not KNOW Him. When we begin to know Him, He becomes the Cornerstone of our Hope and when the storms rage and everything else is swept away, we still have hope. Maintaining hope is critical because when we lose hope we fall into despair; if we are wise, we will place our greatest hope in unfailing God. When we become discouraged, we must ask ourselves if it because our hope is misplaced in someone or something less than God. Hope in Him. He never fails.
