Does our life reflect evidence that we are guided by the wisdom of men—or–the POWER of God? If our decisions are guided by what “makes sense” or a course approved by men–instead of the leading of the Spirit–then we may miss the wondrous accomplishments which God has destined for us. It “makes sense” that I continue to practice law because I’ve spent years training for it; however, if God has planned something greater, how will I ever know what that is if I am not completely willing to follow Him rather than simply rely upon conventional wisdom? Conventional wisdom is useful, but it can limit us from following His Spirit and attaining the amazing things which God has planned for us! If God’s Spirit leads us to depart from man’s wisdom–the safest choice we can make is to go with God. That is the way Paul the Apostle chose to live when he abandoned his stellar career as a “religious” leader in order to follow Christ. When he made this unconventional choice, God used him to pen a good part of the New Testament! He lived His life in the wisdom of God’s Spirit and wrote: “We do not speak…the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’— the things God has prepared for those who love him— these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.” (excerpts from 1 Cor. 2:6-12) Our GREATEST destiny is achieved when we allow God’s Spirit to be our GREATEST influence!
