It’s crazy that I so easily find myself running in the opposite direction of what is best for me and constantly needing to correct my course back to the loving arms of God! Following my will is hard habit to break! I wandered for many, many years upon the barren desert of my own way, grappling to handle trouble with my own dim wisdom, grasping to find love and acceptance in the things which pass away—until–my heart became as desperate as a man gasping for his last breath. That’s how far I strayed before I was ready to turn to God. He knew I was ready–and He reached out in His mercy and showed me the goodness of living in His will. I’ve been on a journey with Him for about 5 years now and I’m still exceedingly slow to grasp the fact that God’s will is the safest and most satisfying place to live. In His will, He is the center of my joy. My peace is found in directing my mind to the things which flow from His presence. His Word promises: “[W]hatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” (Phil.‬ ‭4:8-9) In God’s will, we are FREE and no longer possessed and driven like a slave possessed by the continually dissatisfied demon of self.‬ Whenever I find myself becoming anxious about ANYTHING, it’s because I have slipped away from the peace of God’s perfect will. Six years ago I would have thought that was esoteric nonsense because I’d never been in God’s perfect will. His will is an experience like none other. The more we surrender to Him, the more we experience His wonderful Presence! His will provides the closest experience of heaven on earth and when you’re there you never want to leave! The world’s charm becomes tawdry and tarnished when compared to the warmth of God’s Presence. Our pursuit of The Fountain of Youth, The Midas Touch, The Cinderella Story or The Hall of Fame become secondary to possessing God’s presence because, in Him alone–we are completely satisfied!
