Most of us seek power because we believe it will bring us security, status, influence—and, even love. Our human reaction is to seek power through ways WE understand. We dedicate our looks, brains, strength, athleticism or other natural talents to attaining power. It may come in the form of landing a prosperous and loving spouse; a high-paying job, a political position, a wealthy client or military rank. Whatever our worldly power vice—we are misled if we believe that the worldly security we desperately seek can EVER compare to the security which God offers. There is no one more powerful than God. However, the promises of power by the world often seduces us and then—we find ourselves weakened and vulnerable because the power has been obtained at the cost of forsaking God. Anything, anyone or any direction we choose outside of God’s will makes us vulnerable and weak because we’ve placed confidence in what we can lose. When we are seduced by the world’s power, we become weak; but when we are surrendered to God’s love, we become strong. Jesus told Paul: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness;” and Paul’s response was: “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Cor. 12:9-10) When Christ is with us, we do not NEED the power of the world because HE is the most powerful force upon the earth. The afflictions of the world—poverty, disease, hate, hurt and even death—can never rob us of the power which resides in us through Christ. WE rob OURSELVES of God’s power when we follow the delusion and pride of our own way. God’s great strength is most manifested in our surrender. God grants HIS power ONLY to those who choose to be humbly and totally surrendered to Him. To find His power, we must approach each day with our mind and heart wide open to God’s will. God’s power resides in His will. If we want true power, we must seek God. His way is the most powerful way we will ever find!
