Only after experiencing the peace and satisfaction of HIS ways, did I have the courage to ask God to search me and remove MY ways. When we surrender our will to Him, we begin to experience the relationship with Him for which we were created. He is our “match made in heaven.” Do we know anyone who KNOWS us like He does? Is there any who LOVES us like Him? God is the Author of our love. When we experience Him, He fills us to overflowing and we surprisingly find that we DESIRE to rid ourselves of anything which is taking up space which is not filled with Him. The satisfaction of His love, produces this prayer in our heart: “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me.” (Psa. 139:23-24a) I cannot say how shocking it was for me when I realized that I WANTED God to search my heart and identify any grievous way within me! I had spent so many years of my Christian life clinging to the sin of my own way because I was deceived into believing that it would fulfill me. How was it that I now WANTED God to SEARCH the hidden crevices of my heart??? The reason was simple: I’ve experienced the goodness of His way and I’ve never had anything in my entire life as good as God. When our hearts are awakened to His goodness and we allow Him to satisfy us, then we don’t want ANYTHING to separate us from Him. So we WANT Him to search and root out the hidden sins, emotional deceptions, intellectual traps and any inexcusable neglect or rejection of His Word. His goodness teaches us to open ourselves up to His heart–without any reservations. In His heart dwells no sin; and when we love God with all of our heart, we hate sin because it keeps us from what we love. (Psa. 139:21-22) When we are far from God, it fills our heart with fear to think of allowing Him to flood our heart with His searchlight. When we yield to His will and experience the fullness of His goodness, then we realize that His will is an amazing trade for the emptiness of our own way. In His will–we WANT Him to open each and every closet of our heart and remove whatever we’ve hidden which darkens the goodness of His love!
