God did not create us to be alone; however, if we are in a season of our life where we ARE alone, it CAN become one of the most fulfilling times of our life because when we are alone, we have more time and autonomy to allow God to lead us in His joyful and satisfying ways. Unless we are God’s children, being alone can be an increasingly sad and empty existence. Even for those who ARE God’s children—but haven’t taken the time to get to know Him—it can be miserable and lonely. As God’s child–I’ve been there. Shortly after the greatest personal crises of my life, I was at a point where I was more alone then I’d ever been in my entire life. I began to try my usual cures for loneliness when I realized that—yet again–I was beginning another of my life-long cycles of emotionally crushing and self-destructive behavior. It was the SAME behavior that led me to my current personal crises. Then, God opened a window to heaven and showed me that no one had EVER been as good to me as Him. So, why then, wasn’t I pursuing HIM to fill my loneliness??? I didn’t have anything to lose. Although by the world’s standards I was successful—I knew better because the success of the world had NOT satisfied me. I had money, children and an accomplished career—but my heart was so lonely and sad that I was on the verge of being admitted to a stress center. It’s incredible that I had to sink so low in order to be intelligent enough to seek God Who had demonstrated more love for me than anyone else in the world! The journey of the last six years has at times been very hard because I daily wrestle with submitting my will to His. However, the more I yield to Him, the more He fills me with the perfection of His Presence. God is never lonely, afraid, unhappy or—in any way needy! When we seek Him with ALL our of heart, He replaces our loneliness with the joy and fulfillment found in His Divine Plan for our life. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah ‭29:11-13‬)
