If we spend our lives wishing for what we don’t have, we will never have ALL that God plans for us. God has a wonderful plan and when we seek Him He reveals it to us. However, when we are unthankful, our discontent builds a wall between us and God. We become like a spoiled child in a room full of wonderful toys who cannot enjoy them because he is obsessed with the one he does not possess. If we stop thinking about what we do NOT have, and instead think about the great richness which God has provided within Himself for each of us, we realize that God has given each of us more blessings than we can comprehend. Stop and think–if you could have ANYTHING in the world, what would it be? In order to understand our heart, it’s important to give our most desired goal an identity—is it another person, wealth, possessions, position, power, pleasure, a family—what is it? Now imagine possessing it—then what? Do we believe that we will NEVER want anything else??? Rubbish! We are deluded if we believe that attaining our dreams will give us ultimate satisfaction, because we forget that satisfaction begins in our heart and our heart is most satisfied by God. No one loves us more than He does. Christ didn’t pursue WORLDLY dreams because–His goal was to give us an ETERNAL destiny. “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.” (2 Cor. 8:9) He became poor so we could become eternally rich; and He became nothing so we could have everything. What more could we possibly want? Until we pursue Him and allow Him to enlighten us about how blessed we are in Him, we will NEVER stop wanting what we don’t have because we will never comprehend the immense gifts we ALREADY possess in Him. He satisfies us in a way nothing else ever will. When we strip away the sins of commission and the sins of omission from our heart, we find our heart right up next to His and our heartbeat and His become one. Perfect God fills our hearts with HIS love which fulfills our every want and need. His love makes us thankful and we are no longer driven to possess anything or anyone–except Him.
