Despite the wreckage I allowed sin to wreak upon my life, it amazes me that God still treated me as if there was hope for something beautiful and worthwhile to blossom from the heap of misery I had created. God believes in me like no one else has ever done and His belief in me gives me HIS compassion to believe in others. When we begin to understand the degree of compassion which God has shown to us, then He gives us His deep compassion for others. Through His eyes of compassion we see hope for even the greatest wreckage of humanity. We have hope for ourselves and others because we have experienced the faithful mercy of God described in these verses: “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lam. 3:21-23) His mercies continue to be “new every morning” because our sinful flesh is constantly fighting against the born again nature God gives our spirit and soul when we become His child! He KNOWS we NEED His constant mercy. Thus, we should have great mercy for others! When we recognize that we are beneficiaries of God’s GREAT mercy, we find ourselves full of compassion for those who are destroying themselves or who have been battered by conforming to society’s latest sinful fad. God is the magnificent Healer and there is no destruction beyond His healing for one who gives their heart to Him. God is the greatest gift that we can give another because in HIM–EVERY need is satisfied. To give Him, we must have Him. To give His compassion, we must constantly remind ourselves of how much of He’s given us. To have hope for humanity, we must realize how much hope God has for us. GREAT is HIS faithfulness towards even His most faithless of children! His “steadfast love” is everlasting!
