I remember talking to a lady who told me that if her husband of 40 years died, she would be absolutely and completely lost without him. Most of us have at least one person whom we cannot imagine life without. However, when we have hope in God above all else, then we have a sure-foundation so that when our world falls apart—we don’t have to. Everyone experiences tragedy in some form—broken hearts, broken promises and death–so, take a minute and really think about what if tomorrow–the one person you cannot imagine living without– wasn’t there. What would you do? Are we so dependent upon the emotional and physical support of another person that we have neglected to fully explore and build the more permanent and unshakeable spiritual support from God? I lived the majority of my life more dependent upon other people than upon God because it was easier to place my hope in those who are like me than in Someone I don’t understand and Who challenges me to change and be better. However, when we seek God and seek to put away our sin, He gives us unshakable hope which no tragedy can obliterate. The Bible says: “If you prepare your heart, you will stretch out your hands toward him. If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away…Surely then…you will be secure and will not fear. You will forget your misery; you will remember it as waters that have passed away. And your life will be brighter than the noonday; its darkness will be like the morning. And you will feel secure, because there is hope; you will look around and take your rest in security. You will lie down, and none will make you afraid; many will court your favor.” (Job 11:13-19) Sometimes, the humans in whom we place our hope must repeatedly fail us before we learn to pursue God as our prime object of hope. When we pursue Him with passion and make Him our primary object of hope, we learn that He NEVER disappoints us! God is the greatest source of hope and when we seek Him, He gives us HIS hope!
