When we get to know God, we realize that it is our sin which robs us of hope and joy and therefore, we learn the wisdom of becoming Christ-like. When we are given the gift of eternal life, Christ gives us His grace to endure anything and in the process develop His character and become Holy warriors. Because Christ–through His resurrection– conquered despair, when we develop His character, it produces unconquerable hope within us. This passage in Romans explains it very well: “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” (Rom. 5:1-4) When we become Christ-like, we have unending hope and irrepressible joy AND we KNOW that “all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Rom. 8:28) If we are STILL chomping at the bit to live in the sinful will of our own way, it’s very likely because we have NOT experienced the peace and goodness of GOD’S way. When we experience His goodness, we no longer find satisfaction in the misery of our own sinful way. In HIM we find EVERYTHING GOOD—peace, strength, satisfaction, joy, love, hope, wisdom, etc. There is nothing sinful about God and if we want Him and His goodness, we must forsake our own way and follow Him without reservation. He loves us more than we love ourselves and He’s already proven it by giving His Son. He wants to prove it to us even more—but we need to surrender to Him in order to allow Him to do it. Our hope and joy in NOTHING else, compares to the hope and joy God gives us when we surrender to Him!
