If our relationships with others are chosen based upon what we will RECEIVE instead of what we will GIVE, then we must consider whether we have allowed our heart to be close to God. Do we choose a spouse based upon what they can give us? Do we want children because of a need they will fulfill in us? Do we choose friends or business connections because of how they can promote our social and economic standing? If the answer to these questions is “yes,” then maybe we need to ask ourselves: “Why are we so needy?” Is Our Heavenly Father EVER deficient in His love or stingy with His resources towards His children? Or–is it that we have wandered so far from Him that we must seek love and resources from other people? The deficiency does not lie with Him—it lies with us–because He offers us immense love and endless resources. When we are God’s children, the seed of His perfect love is planted in our heart and the fruit of that love should feed others. “Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” (1 John 4:15-16) Not only does God supply us With MORE love than we could possibly need, He ALSO places ALL His resources at the disposal of His children who respect Him above ALL others! “Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” (Psalms 34:9-10) If we truly believe that GOD is the prime source of love and all good things, then we WILL seek Him FIRST. When He fills us with His love and His resources, then we don’t need to seek those things from others. Then–relationships become about what we can GIVE not about what we can GET. When we allow God to fill us with His love and abundance, then every relationship we seek is based upon what we may give instead of what we may receive.
