There is nothing I have done to improve myself–education, working out, new clothes, eating healthier, losing weight–that has improved me like spending time with God has improved me. When God makes improvements in us, it creates change in the deepest part of us—the spiritual part which is eternal. Also, when our spirit and soul are empowered by God, the He shows us how to efficiently and effectively improve the less important things like the physical aspects of our life. He gives us balance from the inside–out. Because our focus is not on the physical, but upon the spiritual–we take the physical matters in stride with His spiritual perspective. The physical improvements aren’t our focus—they are more peripheral. Just because they become more peripheral doesn’t mean our body and mind go to pot—in fact, it’s amazing how much the reverse is true. Closeness to God makes us more efficient so that a we actually spend LESS time gaining more of what we NEED. We also spend LESS time gaining what we WANT because He changes what we want and then He shows us how to get it. If what we want is to improve ourselves to gain the approval, admiration and love of others; we find that when we get to know God, He changes that desire and then–what we want most is His approval because we know that no one loves us and satisfies us like He does. In HIM, we possess the SAME power which raised Jesus from the dead! Our prayer should be as Paul’s… “[T]hat the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places..”(Eph. ‭1:17-20) In God, we find power, wisdom and love which richly fills our lives and improves us beyond any imagination we possess. To improve our life–seek Him first!
