Sometimes God gives us the wisdom we need for a flying lesson and then immediately allows us to take a test flight. When God gave me the lesson yesterday about how He pushes us out of the security of our nest in order to free us to fly—I really thought I’d already been pushed out of the nest enough. Nope. He’s teaching me that the only REAL security I possess is that which is eternal. All the scrambling and craziness here on earth means a whole lot of nothing unless it is a means to an end for an eternal purpose. I’ve been doing a lot of scrambling and craziness lately—but God is making it clear that I need to sort out the purpose. Making money should be a means for an eternal end; not an enslavement to to the taskmaster of temporal necessity. God knows our needs better than we do and He meets them more richly than we deserve. God is reminding me that not only must I seen His wisdom, but I must also have the faith to FOLLOW it. He promises us wisdom: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”(James 1:5) When our heart truly wants to live in God’s will, He gives us wisdom without reservation—however, we don’t always have the faith to follow it. We must ask for His wisdom in faith that what He gives us is undoubtedly the best way. “But let him ask [for wisdom] in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.” (James 1:6) When He gives us the wisdom of His direction and we doubt it and hesitate to follow it, we find ourselves churning and tossing—back to where we came from before we had His direction. However, when we trust Him, then we determine to follow His wisdom no matter how crazy it seems by the world’s standards. If we want GOD’S wisdom, we must be close enough to Him to ask; and when He gives it—we must believe in Him enough to follow.
