From Volume 2 of Essential Faith: I have seen in others and experienced for myself the disparity of worthlessness created by sin. Several years back when I was walking through a valley of shame, I remember thinking that all I wanted–was to be loved. I was too afraid to come to God because I truly thought He had “had it” with me; I was too ashamed to go to other believers because I knew I was a failure in their eyes; however, I didn’t want to seek love in the world anymore because I knew from experience that the world would only use me and hurt me more. You see, I was where I was because I had walked away from God and into the world where I believed I would find love and happiness and–all I got was a beaten and shredded heart. Charles Spurgeon said: “Great thoughts of your sin alone will lead you to despair, but great thoughts of Christ will pilot you into a haven of peace. The weight of my sin presses down on me like a giant’s foot would crush a worm, but oh, it is but a grain of dust to Him because He has borne that sin on the cross.” When I was being crushed my own worthlessness is when God drew me to Him with His pricelessness. The path of God’s love which led me back to Him is recorded to encourage others in the book “Essential Faith” and on the website gofaithstrong.com–yet–more importantly it is written in my heart. There is no love like His and He, Who “poured out his soul to death” and was “numbered with the transgressors” has borne the weight of my sin for me so that I could be absolutely freed by His love! “Surely he has borne our grief’s and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted…[H]e poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:4, 12) He bore our sin to intercede for our helpless souls; and our worthlessness was transformed to pricelessness. The journey which brought us to Him is a priceless gift we can share to lead others to the perfect peace which comes from being loved by God!
