Some of the greatest love stories often spring from some of life’s greatest tragedies. My own life, which I had managed to shipwreck on the shores of sin, is being beautifully rebuilt by God. Amidst the wreckage, I looked up–and like a rainbow of promise in the sky—I saw God’s love. I’d spent my entire Christian life running from it and then as I lay on the shore, beaten down by my own sin, I remembered His promises and He drew me back to Him. God said: “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” (Jeremiah‬ ‭31:3‬) There is no love like His! My heart was filled with tears of repentance and I determined to seek to know Him. He surrounded me with love which I cannot explain. Although I came to this turning point about six years ago, the rebuilding has not been easy nor has it happened overnight. A lot of sinful habits developed over decades of life and there was a lot of tragedy to undo. The daily decision to seek God had been the most effective means to change my heart. His presence rids me of sin. When you’ve experienced both walking in sin and walking in God’s love, you begin to realize that you never want to go back to the darkness and depravity of sin. His love is beyond amazing. The fact that God desires to spend time with us when we still sin against His love is, in fact, the greatest mystery of love which my mind cannot comprehend. What my mind CAN comprehend is that God’s love for me is the greatest love story I’ll ever experience. No one will ever love me like He does. He laid down His life for me and thus, I love Him when my life is laid down for Him. His love changes my life and I want to love as He does. When we find His love, we become part of the greatest love story in history! “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:8‬)
