God gives us a daily choice—walk in light or walk in darkness; walk with God or walk with the god of this world. The Bible plainly states: “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.” (1 John 1:5-6) If I am God’s child, but choose to think in darkness, talk of darkness, walk in darkness and make close friends with those who do the same—then there is no way I am living in the light. It is in God’s will that His light shines and truth dwells. To claim to live in light while walking in darkness perpetuates a great hypocrisy and leads others astray! The closer we get to God, the more His light reveals truth. His truth enlightens us to His powerful and perfect ways. We learn to abhor living in the corruption of darkness. We are promised: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.” (2 Pet. 1:3-4) Jesus is the light of the world and when we follow Him, we walk as children of light! He said: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) His Word defines the destiny of light He has planned for His children: “For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.” (1 Thess. 5:5) Our first choice of the day should be to spend time in the light of His Word so that HE may light our path. Light exposes darkness and the truth about what is right and wrong. Begin the day by walking into the light of His Word.
