I once heard a preacher say that faith is the mover of the mountains that are created by our doubt. God used this to remind me that my mountains are made larger or smaller depending upon the object of my faith. We all have faith and we all have mountains. Our faith is manifested in nearly everything we do. We demonstrate our faith in the smallest decisions in life–that the plumbing will work when turn the faucet; that our toothpaste won’t poison us; that the water we drink isn’t polluted; that all the other people driving on the interstate will obey the rules of the road and not crash into us, etc. We also demonstrate our faith in the tougher problems of life–we put faith in doctors we don’t know to cut us open and make us well; in lawyers we don’t know to keep us out of jail, fight for our children, or other serious issues; we trust politicians we don’t know to solve the crises of our government; etc. We have no trouble at all exercising faith in inanimate objects and people we don’t know for all things–big and small! However, we must ask ourselves if our faith is misplaced so that our mountains have become bigger than they need to be? Jesus said that all we needed was a tiny bit of faith in HIM to move (not just climb) mountains. He said, “truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.’” (‭Matt. ‭17‬:‭20‬) Faith in God can even help us throw our mountain into the sea! Jesus said, “If you have faith and do not doubt…if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” (‭Matt.‬ ‭21‬:‭21-22‬) What’s holding us back? We know how to exercise faith because we clearly do it everyday with things and people who are much less worthy than God. We must learn NOT to doubt God. Our doubt in Him is the only reason that our mountains EVER seem huge. When we get close to God, we experience His power and then His power in our life is no longer limited by our doubt because His Presence eliminates ALL doubt!
