As I ask God to teach me about how to have faith, He is revealing my deep need to REALLY KNOW Him. We cannot have ACTIVE faith in God if we do not know Him. When my faith in inanimate objects exceeds my faith in God–then it’s very clear that I don’t REALLY know Him! God has recently challenged me to take a very large step of faith, and I’ve paused to consider the “what if’s” about the move He’s challenged me to make. I’m afraid of a future I can’t predict because I don’t trust God Whom I claim to know! My lack of experience in exercising faith in God causes me to hesitate and to think about all the things which seem crazy or are unknown about the step of faith God is moving me to take. Do I know more than God? He gave ALL for me and I need not question whether I can trust Him. I need only obey and let Him take care of the details. Faith is trusting God enough to obey Him even when you have no idea about the “why” or the “how.” We don’t need to know the end result. We don’t even need to know what happens next! We only need know Him. The Bible says, “your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:5) If our faith is so weak that we’ve never before seen (or recognized) His power at work in our life, then it’s no wonder we hesitate to place our faith in Him! I’ve seen the power of an airplane, and thus, I trust it with my life at 30,000 feet. I must not deny myself the experience of SEEING the power of my Creator!!! I must purpose to board that plane of faith and learn to be carried away in His power. When I exercise faith in God, I am trusting His wisdom. If I fail to walk by faith, I will never live in the wonder of His power. The “power of God” instead of the “wisdom of men” should define the outer limit of our walk by faith.
