I’m not good at waiting for what I want and when I don’t get it right away–I usually just try harder to get it. I scramble, sweat and fret instead of trusting God and asking Him to channel my hard work and energy in the right direction. Sometimes we are not even supposed to do anything about what we want except wait for God’s direction while we stay busy doing the things we know we’re supposed to do now. There is nothing wrong with working hard to attain goals; however, when we allow GOD to set our goals and we follow HIS methods to achieve them–then our hard work is multiplied by the wisdom of His ways. My biggest problem is I want to set my own goals and I want to accomplish them MY way. So, in order to keep myself in a mindset of trusting God, it’s helpful to remind myself of His established track record of dependability in my life. When I am in His will, no man can thwart His plan. When I’m yielded to Him, God has never failed to accomplish a purpose for His glory. When things don’t go the way we thought they should–for reasons beyond our control–we must not believe God’s plan has been defeated. Rather, we must simply get close to Him and look for His next direction. He can see the big picture! The more we seek to be close to Him, the more He builds a history of helping us and that history is a useful reminder which reinforces the wisdom of trusting Him. The Bible says: “But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge.” (Psalm 71:14-15) There is no doubt that quantity of God’s good deeds in my life is “past my knowledge!” The more I seek Him, the more I depend upon Him and the more I experience His dependability. The Bible says: “And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.” (Psalm 9:10) The solution to my every problem and the fulfillment of my every desire begins first thing in the morning when I have my quiet time with God. He fills my heart with strength and peace from His Word. He replaces all of the empty spaces in my heart with Himself and my desires are fulfilled in Him.
