I remember when I was diagnosed with melanoma and thinking that such not-so-great news can be mind numbing or–it can be soul stirring! A reality check about what is real, should take us to the center of reality and there is nothing more real than God. For many years I chose to live in the ignorance of His existence and never lived in the reality of who He is–and that was a tragic way to live. After pursuing a relationship with Him for several years now, I have discovered that He is my best Friend and my loving Father. Finding a relationship with God has given me a song when before there was only silence. I’ve learned about what a good Father He is! No good father refuses comfort to his child who is in pain, refuses to assist her in need, or is silent when she cries out for help–and, after experiencing Him–I can tell you that God is the BEST Father! The Bible says, “If the Lord had not been my help, my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence. When I thought, ’My foot slips,’ your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up. When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul…the Lord has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge.” (Ps. 94:17-19, 22) God is our good Father and no trouble can keep me from His hands. He cheers my soul when my cares are many. Many times I’m much like the young child of a great king who knows when trouble comes that the only place she wants to be in his arms! Like that child who doesn’t comprehend the power of the throne, I don’t need to comprehend the magnitude of God’s power to understand that He loves me. Just as a child knows she is loved by her father; I know I am loved by God. There is such peace in His presence–and it stirs my soul to Joy even in the midst of trials!
