Unbelief draws a perimeter around God’s power and prohibits us from achieving our maximum potential. Every child of God possesses incorruptible salvation which makes us spiritually bullet proof; however, we must still wrestle with our failing flesh! Shall we allow our mortality to place limitations on the spiritual power God has given us? That’s what unbelief does—it bridles God’s power and trashes the most incredible opportunities. Unbelief kept the disciples from healing an epileptic boy (Matt. 17: 14-20) and put the Israelites on a 40 year delay from entering the promised land.(Heb. 3:16-19) The disciples and the Israelites had witnessed the miracles of God yet they STILL didn’t believe in His power in their lives. We are no better–because we witness miracles every day too and we struggle with the same unbelief. Life is a miracle, the sunrise is a miracle, love is a miracle, etc. Do we honestly believe that the complex systems of earth and in the heavens just somehow happen–without God? Even man’s inventions–which are far less complex–require a power source and a plan. The truth is that we simply lack belief in God and because of our unbelief we forfeit the miracles of His power. Jesus’ hometown folks were a prime example of this–their unbelief prohibited them from receiving all His miracles. (Matt. 13:58) There are never enough miracles to satisfy the heart who doubts God! God earned our trust because He sacrificed everything to secure our eternity! The Bible says that unbelief takes us far from God: “Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.” (Heb. 3:12) The key to building belief is spending time with God. We build our relationship with Him and He establishes a track record that we may trust. However, if we neglect our time with Him, unbelief is lurking around the corner to rob us of the trusted friendship with God. There are no shortcuts to friendship with God. The better we know Him–the more we trust Him. God is trustworthy.
