Ever wonder why squirrels and birds don’t have stress centers? I love to hear the early morning sounds of the birds and watch the squirrels scamper about their business. They are doing exactly what God created them to do. They are not abusing their bodies with stress, overeating, overworking, laziness, drugs, etc. They teach us about God: “But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind…With God are wisdom and might; he has counsel and understanding.” (Job 12:7-10, 13) The creatures which we classify as less intelligent than ourselves grasp what we humans struggle to grasp—that is, how to trust God. When we learn to trust God we become balanced and unshakeable. We face whatever comes with the confidence that we belong to Him and we experience the TRUTH of the promise that “all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Rom. 8:28) When we trust Him we ask Him and are able to see how He works. We become part of His unshakeable plan. God said: “As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand.” (Isaiah 14:24) Worry is replaced with peace. When I wake up worrying and can’t find the answers, I must simply go to God in simplicity and trust: “I can’t solve this problem and I don’t want to live in worry today–so please help me.” He casts the worry aside, and I am drawn into the peace of His Word. He teaches me what I need to know. He loves me more than the birds and squirrels because His Son died for me and if they don’t worry, then neither should I! I KNOW His peace when I seek His wisdom, counsel and understanding. Peace–not stress–is God’s plan for His children today.
