No matter how far our God-given talent takes us, if it takes us away from glorifying GOD–it has taken us nowhere special. Anyone who works hard enough at anything can achieve accomplishments for THEMSELVES–but–it takes a humble heart to glorify GOD! Many times I’ve justified the use of the talent God’s given me to obtain my own recognition because I convince myself that I’m doing it to gain a platform for God. God doesn’t need my platform–He is The Rock! Jesus was the personification of Almighty God–the Creator of talent–and yet, He came to earth as a humble servant. If Jesus needed to gain the recognition of man in order to accomplish His purpose, He could have come to earth in the form of a brilliant politician or conquering hero–but He did not. The Bible says: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.” (2 Cor. 8:9) Despite His ability to live in the glory of the immense talents which He no doubt possessed; He chose to live humbly. There was more power in His humility than in the throne of any King. From His humble station in life–He conquered death. We are not drawn to Him because He was a sports hero or a movie star–we are drawn to His HEART because of His SPIRIT. So–what are we doing with the talent God has given us? Are we unwittingly seeking to have the glory of our talent overshadow the light of God’s presence? Are we veiling His grace? Do people see the characteristics of GOD when they meet me–or do they see something impressive about ME? God does not need for us to have the respect or admiration of the ungodly in order to draw the lost to Him. The world needs to see Him, not us. No matter what talents God has given us, He has given EACH of us the great opportunity to show others more about Himself. The Bible says: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms…so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 4:10-11a) We were created for HIS glory and thus, the talent HE gives us, blesses US most when it glorifies HIM!
