There is incomparable safety in God’s will. There are days when the challenges looming on the horizon pack the destructive force of an F5 tornado. That’s when I make the choice which makes the difference—God’s way or mine. When I choose to tackle the projectiles flung from the tornado—without God—I’m playing defense–and I’m alone. God knows the path of the tornado before it does–He doesn’t have to play defense because no force is big enough to take Him. He plays offense. If I’m taking on the tornado without God it’s because I’m either too terrified to be smart or too ignorant to be terrified. When I’m out of God’s will and the storm hits my radar, I’m standing alone in the path of fear because I’m out of the shelter of God’s Will. I look around and realize I have good reason to fear because alone, I’m no match for the tornado. I must go back. Thus, with a heart of repentance and trust, I pray: “O God–I’m sorry. Please lead me back to Your Will.” Sin is what typically causes me to stray from God’s will. Sometimes it’s even “just worry”–which is a sneaky and terrible sin because it’s doubting the very character of God! No sin is ever worth forfeiting our security in God. When we’re accustomed to fighting battles WITH God; we don’t want to fight WITHOUT Him. The Book of Isaiah says God is our stronghold: “O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things…for you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat; for the breath of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall.” (Isaiah 25:1,4) God is so faithful. We often don’t know how He will handle the storm–but we know He always does. He simply does the unimaginable. Evil is ruthless. It constantly threatens to crush us; but when God’s children walk boldly in the shadow of their Almighty Father, evil is thwarted by grace! God’s will is the most secure place for us to live–in the storm–AND–in the calm. He has a magnificent plan for each of us which is found ONLY in His will!
