What do we want people to think about when they see us? Do we want to be the “big man” the “bombshell beauty,” the “nerdy brainiac,” the “ripped athlete,” the “one who has it all,” the “best in the profession,” etc.? If we are honest, we’ll admit that much of what we do and say is to project an image–for our own glory. It’s not surprising either, since nearly every platform of influence—radio, T.V., social media, friends and even family—encourages us to promote ourselves. We are bombarded with the pressure to be more fit, more intelligent, richer, cooler, hotter, etc.—ALL so we can attain something better for ourselves. While there is no doubt that God wants us to strive for excellence with the talents He has given us, the challenge is to maximize our talents for HIS Glory. Why does that sound so unappealing to us? For me–it’s because I often don’t grasp my immense value–to GOD. Thus, I think I need to make myself more valuable to men. God values us so much that He offered us salvation through the death of His ONLY Son and thus, HE has given us a value far more priceless than the strength, beauty or wisdom of this world!! Do we know ANYONE else who values us more??? When we are born again, our body becomes a magnificent temple from which to shine the beacon of God’s pure and holy light to the world. The Bible says: “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Cor. 6:19-20) God has made us priceless! When we strive for excellence, it shouldn’t be wasted upon glorifying our dying and corrupt body. We have been commissioned for a higher purpose!!! Sure, we should keep ourselves healthy, clean and presentable; however, we’ve been given an immense opportunity–to invest our frail mortality into the immortal glory of God! God gives our imperfect bodies the ability to glorify His perfection. Today, when people look at us–what will they see?
