If we wish to influence others for Christ, then HE must be a part of EVERY area of our life. No one is going to believe what we SAY about Him if HE is not reflected in what we DO. We won’t attract others to Christ if our life doesn’t reflect that WE are attracted to Him. One who claims to be a personal trainer but is 100 pounds overweight–won’t have many clients—right? A personal trainer can’t cheat at diet and exercise and expect to hide his flab behind his title of “personal trainer.” Neither can we cheat in our relationship with Christ and hide behind our self-styled label of “Christian.” It is only CHRIST who makes us authentic Christians, however, to be more than just a label, we must KNOW Him. The Bible says: “May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love.” (Eph. 3:17) His love becomes “rooted” in us when we plant His Word in our heart, spend time with Him, listen to Him, follow His rules and live in His will. If our “Christianity” never changes our heart, then we are like an overweight “personal trainer” who dons his athletic clothes but never breaks a sweat. Physical fitness doesn’t occur without exercise and diet and it doesn’t last unless it becomes a lifetime habit. True Christianity doesn’t occur without Christ. When we develop a relationship with Him, then His love permeates every area of our lives–the boardroom, the ball field, the living room, the school room, etc. When God’s love takes over who we are, we become authentic Christians and when people see us they know that we belong to Holy God without us ever proclaiming the word “Christian.” Like a physically fit personal trainer, people can see the evidence of who we are without us wearing a name-tag. When those who are hungry for God observe that we are so in love with Christ that His love overflows to them–then, they are attracted to Christ. There is no love more authentic than Christ’s love–but to have it–we must KNOW Him!
