When we fall in love with God–it’s unforgettable. As a young girl, I always dreamed of finding a man who would tenderly care for my heart—you know—the one who knew what I needed before I said anything; planned surprises reflecting his knowledge of my preferences; rescued me when in trouble, was crazy about me even without make-up, etc. What I was looking for–but didn’t know it–was God. God has better plans for our heart than anything we imagine. He knows us best and loves us better than anyone. Because we are created in His image, we possess the capacity to experience His love. However, we must know Him to fall in love with Him. To know Him and experience His love, we must awaken each day and prepare our heart. God’s love is pure because it is from Him and therefore, to experience His pureness, we must daily keep our heart pure from things that defile it. We can’t have both defilement and purity. As we empty our hearts of impurities and fill it with His Word, we begin to experience His remarkable love. When we fall in love with Him, there is nothing in this world which quenches our need for love like He does. However, if we haven’t experience His love, then we look for love in the allurements of the world. His love is irreplaceable. The Song of Solomon describes “love” as being a “seal upon your heart.” It says, “Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it.” (Song of Solomon 8:6-7a) With God, we experience the deepest love which exists–a love which no water can quench nor flood can drown. God’s love in us produces His love in the love we show to others. When we fall in love with God, He places the unforgettable seal of His love upon our heart.
