God’s Word tastes Divine! Its’ full flavor must be tasted with the heart–not just the mind. I can’t fully verify that your mom’s lasagna is wonderful unless I taste it–right? Looking at it, smelling it, thinking about it and watching other people eat it–is NOT tasting it. God’s Word is described as bread (Matt. 4:4), water (Isa. 55:10), milk and meat (1 Cor. 5:12). We should eat it every day. Hearing God’s Word from the pulpit on the seventh day should be like eating dessert at the end of a six course meal—or, like the appetizer on the first day before the next six daily courses. If we ate only once a week, we’d become emaciated! If going to church is our only time to feed on God’s Word, then it’s not a wonder that there are so many dying and emaciated Christians! God’s Word holds more variety of delights then there are spices in my kitchen or recipes on the web. If we limit our experience to eating once a week, we’ll run out of Sundays before we get to experience all of His culinary wonders and–we may starve to death on the way! His Word provides the best “comfort food” because it comforts our soul in everlasting proportions. When we begin grow as a result of His divine nutrition, we wonder why waited so long to eat. God loves to feed us and watch us grow. He has the perfectly balanced nutritional plan for our spiritual growth. Once His Word is ingested, none of it is wasted because it becomes part of our spiritual cellular structure and the benefits are multiplied. His Word says, “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isa. 55:10-11) God’s Word is full of health. It is a culinary delight which He has especially prepared for His children. Don’t run off and start the day without breakfast and don’t go to sleep on an empty tummy! Like mom’s cooking–God’s Word is too good to miss–so don’t skip even one meal!
