Have you ever experienced hurt so acute that you can’t talk without crying–the kind of pain that kind words, hugs, a pill, a bottle of wine, or any distraction–can’t take away? Or, have you ever felt so weighted down by the tremendous demands and responsibilities of life that you don’t know what to do first to keep from drowning? When these two situations intersect, well, that can break us for sure! But–that’s the opportunity to experience the sheer magnitude of God’s comfort. God is the only One I know Who completely absorbs my pain and helplessness and replaces it with the Divine comfort which empowers me to minister to others. The Bible says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” (2 Cor. 1:3-4) WE can be comforted by GOD! Wow!! It is truly a miraculous experience when He dries our tears and replaces them with joy and strength. When we are overwhelmed by pain and responsibility, His arms are the best place for our heart. The cries of His children do not go unheeded or unattended! When we have pain or trouble we must train ourselves to go to Him first. God is able to turn our pain into a tool for comforting others and make us strong enough to help others instead of focusing on our own pain. Therefore, we call Him “blessed” and “The God of all comfort and Father of mercies.” He IS indeed so—and experiencing His comfort is the supreme remedy to heal a hurting heart. When we are His children and our heart cries out for help, His arms absorb the pain of our crying heart and replace the pain with His strength and wisdom. That is the comfort which makes our heart shout “blessed thanks” to our magnificent Father!
