The more time I spend in God’s presence, the more my heart gets attached to Him. When my heart is attached to Him, then even in the craziest of busyness, His wisdom and love flows through me and even amidst of the darkest evil, He gives His light and vision. It scares me to think about living without Him. I can’t believe that for so many years after I was born again–I actually CHOSE to live without Him! These verses are now a favorite expression of my heart: “Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. For behold, those who are far from you shall perish; you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you. But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.” (Psalms 73:25-28) The more I take time to “be near” to God and experience His tender care for me, the more I depend upon Him for everything. He has become the “strength of my heart.” When He becomes the source of power of our lives, then He empowers everything we do–for His glory. We learn to carefully guard our relationship with Him because losing closeness to Him comes at too great a cost. There is none other like Him! If there is anything or anyone which takes precedence over God, then we are missing out on the BEST–when we don’t have to. God instructed Israel, that when they tired the emptiness of seeking after the gods of wood and stone and began to seek Him, that they would find Him. “But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Deut. 4:29) There is NOTHING in this world which will satisfy us like God does because He is magnificent beyond description and loves us more than we imagine!
