It’s very easy to become overwhelmed, exhausted, and even cynical–when we can’t see the results WE EXPECT from the good we are doing. Ecclesiastes says: “Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days.” (Ecc. 11:1) “Many days” can be a long time–before we EVER see results. However, God doesn’t want us to give of our time, talent and resources so we can see results, He wants us to do it because we love and trust Him. His Word says, “As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything. In the morning sow your seed, and at evening withhold not your hand, for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good.” (Ecc. 11:5-6) God has a plan. We don’t have to worry about the results. We simply obey the Spirit and He does miracles with our obedience. He is God and gives us our next breath. We have simple instructions–love Him and love others as we love ourselves. Our Creator knows our human minds cannot comprehend His greatness or the works of His hands. We can’t comprehend His ways of prosperity; therefore, we typically choose the type of prosperity which reflects our shallow understanding–like money, possessions and position. And then, we wonder how it is, after all our struggle and labor, that all we’ve attained is “vanity and vexation of spirit,” which was Solomon’s conclusion about his immense prosperity! That’s not the “good” that God has in mind for us. He wants us to experience the peace that comes from living in the ways of HIS prosperity. His prosperity comes to our heart when we learn that we were created to GIVE of ourselves in order to RECEIVE from God. As we think about the day ahead, we should remember that the good we give out of our love for God will bless us with blessings more precious than anything we work to possess. Our loving Father has an abundance of unimaginable and eternal blessings to share with us.
