Is God satisfying us? The Psalmist wrote: “As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.” (Psalms 17:15) If we SAY we’re satisfied by God, then our lives REFLECT it–just like if we say we’re happy–we smile. The degree that God satisfies us is EVIDENCED in our daily lives. Do we dress in a manner to satisfy a desire to be noticed? Do we talk in a manner to satisfy a desire to be admired? Do we work to satisfy a desire to have more wealth or status? Do we pursue companionship to satisfy a desire to be loved? God created us first and foremost to be satisfied in HIM. We weary ourselves attempting to satisfy ourselves with things which will NEVER satisfy us. God often blesses us with these temporal blessings, however–beauty and strength are fleeting, admiration fades, wealth is easily lost and companions fail. Eternal God is our eternal satisfaction. When we pursue anything or anyone more than God, then we are as unsatisfied as a hungry baby sucking on an empty bottle. We remain frantically latched-on believing we have found the source of satisfaction and no matter how hard we try, that empty bottle never fills us! We grow weary and our soul despairs because of our inability to be satisfied. God promises us: “I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.” (Jeremiah 31:25) When we pursue Him, we experience the satisfaction of our soul as we’re filled with His nourishment. His food grows the fruits of His Spirit in us. The evidence of God’s presence in our lives abounds. We begin our day longing for the warmth of His presence and hungry for His Word because He satisfies us like nothing the fallen word can offer. Seek God and find COMPLETE satisfaction!
