Are we living in the anxiety of the future instead of the peace of the present? Life can pound away at our soul and flood us with pain, confusion and despair. We can feel like a helpless a child in a rowboat during a hurricane. WHAT will happen next? Deadlines, angry people, failure, unfairness, loneliness, tough tests and heartbreaking trials—can all produce fear and anxiety and displace the peace of living by faith. Faith “is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) Have any of us but God–seen the future? So why spend any time in the present worrying about how the future will turn out, or desperately trying to make it become what WE think it should be–when GOD already has a magnificent plan? In order to entrust our future to Him, we must learn how much He loves us. Then we’ll learn to live in His peace in the present. His peace replaces our anxiety with His wisdom and it fills us and shapes our future in ways more marvelous than we ever imagined. When we are amidst the storms, we must remind ourselves that Jesus weathered storms worse than ours–death and hell–and He did it by CHOICE–ALL so He could tenderly carry our heart in His nail scarred hands. We must place our heart in His hands because–He does not force His amazing love upon us. His love is the truest and purest love we will ever experience. To have it, we must seek to know Him. If we seek God, we will find Him; He loves us so much that He’s already there. “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13) His love is the ONLY place we find perfect peace.
