When we’re “people pleasers” we’re trying to give people “us” instead of “God” and there’s never enough of “us” to satisfy anyone! There’s not even enough of “us” to keep ourselves satisfied because only God completely satisfies. The only lasting pleasure we can give to others is to point them to God. But–we can only teach others how to be satisfied with God if we are satisfied with Him ourselves. People who are satisfied by God don’t value money, possessions, position, family, goals, etc., above the peace from their relationship with Him. When we fall in love with Him, He satisfies us and He changes us because we desire to please Him above all else. We become “God pleasers.” These beautiful words in Isaiah become our own prayer of praise: “The path of the righteous is level; you, the Upright One, make the way of the righteous smooth. Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts. My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness. LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.” (Isaiah 26:7-9, 12) When we’re in love with God, we desire to please HIM above people. When we’re in love with God people SEE our satisfaction in Him. Yesterday, did our life reflect the total satisfaction of His presence? If not, today, will we begin that journey to find our satisfaction in Him? We must forsake all that separates us from Him and seek to know Him. Living in God’s presence, we learn WE don’t need to please people–because our life will draw them into the pleasure of HIM!
