If we choose to love a human more than we love God, it’s impossible for us to love them with the love of God. God IS love. His Word says, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8) If our heart displaces God in favor of a human then–pleasing the human becomes a higher priority over pleasing God; winning their favor takes precedence over winning God’s favor; and being close to them is more important than being close to God. We cannot have two–#1 loves. If we choose to love another human as #1, then we’re not loving God with ALL of our heart because we’ve given first place to someone else. If God is love, and we love Him with all our heart, He fills it with HIS love and we love others as HE does. When we give someone GOD’S love, we give them more love than WE possess. Salvation gives us the ability to allow God to live through us and for His love to abide in us. “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. (1 John 4:9) His love is so profound that He chose to love us before we were capable of loving Him. “In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (vs 10) When we love Him with all our heart, people can SEE His love in us because He lives through us! “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.” (vs 11-12) When we love God, He is the #1 reason for everything we do and then–His love fills us so that we are able to love others with incomprehensible love. Loving God as our #1 love, produces the greatest love we can ever give to anyone else.
