What if everything we had today was gone tomorrow? WHAT IS “everything” to us? Is it our worldly possessions, profession, retirement, family, health, friends or reputation? Is our identity and security tightly wrapped into these very fragile things? Why does it so often take a great tragedy–losing part of our fragile security system–in order for us to find our security in God? For me, it’s been because I don’t believe that God is as good as I am at providing my security. This foolish notion gets more foolish as I get closer to God and see the truth about Him. His Word provides TRUTH about who is REALLY in charge of EVERYTHING! “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:16-17) “There is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.” (1 Corinthians 8:6) If we BELIEVE God’s Word, then we KNOW that HE sustains ALL things. But–what do our everyday actions and decisions say about what we believe? Do we choose the “safe path” to maintain our “security” instead of the “faith path” where God gives us REAL security? When we know God, we learn how much He LONGS to give us security in Himself. His Word says: “The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.” (Psalms 145:14-19) The Almighty fulfills the desires of those who long for Him with a pure heart and passionately pursue Him. When we know Him, our desires become like His. When we desire God above all else, we find the greatest security in Him–and we NEVER have to worry about losing HIM!
