The closer we get to God, the less we enjoy entertainment which does not draw us to Him. Closeness to God changes us. He becomes our one, true joy. No evil exists in Him. His presence gives us a sense of pureness, a feeling of unconditional love, wisdom beyond our understanding and fills us with a power that is greater than our own. Would we forfeit ALL of that–for a show or song which leaves us hungry, lonely, scared, dirty and unsatisfied? When we voluntarily expose our heart to evil, we are eroding most important relationship we possess–the one with Him. His Word says, “He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly…who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed and shuts his eyes from looking on evil, he will dwell on the heights; his place of defense will be the fortresses of rocks; his bread will be given him; his water will be sure.” (Isaiah 33:15-16) For what would we trade ALL God gives us? Unwanted evil abounds aplenty without also inviting it to entertain us. We often justify some entertainment as “harmless,” or “the good outweighs the bad;” however, nothing we put in our mind is neutral. It’s either from God–or it’s not. If it’s something that God hates (because it separates us from Him), do we really expect to feel close to Him while we’re “entertaining” ourselves with it? We can’t fill our heart with Him as long as we’re voluntarily embracing darkness. “What fellowship has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14b) Evil will NEVER satisfy us like God does, but we’ll NEVER understand this if we’ve never been close enough to God to be satisfied by Him. To be satisfied by Him, we must seek Him with ALL our heart! When the most important desire of our heart is desiring God’s presence, then we know we’ve learned to be satisfied by Him. Once we’ve experienced the satisfaction of God’s presence, we desire nothing less than Him.
