Do we keep our cell phone closer to us than God? The other day I left the house without my cell phone and I instantly panicked. It struck me that I’m so ridiculously attached to it that I’m barely able to separate myself from it for even a run through the woods. Ugh! Later, God brought this thought to mind: “Do I have the same panic attack when I’ve separated myself from His presence?” What a great lesson–but t’s one I’m going to need to practice in order to learn. I’ve developed an addictive dependency on a “smart” phone–which is not nearly as smart as God! We thirst for the stimulus of knowledge, entertainment and human companionship to guide us, comfort us and give us wisdom. However, when we tune out human noise and tune into the Spirit of God, He clears our ability to think, reason and exercise sound wisdom. Furthermore, God clarifies reality and we begin to develop the unique and wonderful purpose for which He designed us. But–we’ll never find God’s purpose for us if we don’t spend time alone with Him. He is wiser than anyone we’ll ever know, but we need to break our addiction to human sources to realize it. Do we want God’s answers to everything in life? It’s amazing that He offers us His wisdom. His Word says: “My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding…Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.” (Proverbs 2:1-6, 9-10) The wisdom and comfort we desire is as close to us as we are to God. We must make the choice to stop drowning out His voice with the roar of human noise. When we seek Him, we find the treasures of His wisdom and peace for our soul!
