When we learn to love others with God’s love, then we don’t stop loving them just because we don’t get what we want. God’s love does not depend upon them. It’s based upon Him. If God’s love is in us, then our love will be from Him and it will not depend upon them. It doesn’t depend on us or them–it’s ALL Him! The Bible says, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” (1 John 4:7) When we love God with all our heart, we will love others with His love. If we don’t love others like He does, then we evidently haven’t learned to love Him. His Word says, “He who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.” (1 John 4:20b) Loving others like God does is the gold standard of proof that we love Him. When we begin experience His love, it completely transforms us. Our greatest desire is to be wrapped up in Him. We don’t want to go back to being entrapped by the unsatisfied expectations that we had from others people or from earthly things. Nothing but God can ever satisfy us anyway. When we become completely satisfied with His love, we are freed from the chains of our old desires because in Him we possess all we desire. Thus, we are freed to GIVE love without reservation or expectation. Our cup is so full that it overflows. So, how do we fall in love with God and experience His pure love? We must seek Him with all our heart, mind and body. There must be nothing more important than Him in our life. Our goals, job, financial security, education, friends, family, health, physical appearance, fitness, or whatever our pursuit is–it must take a back seat to our pursuit of God. Then, He begins to fill us like nothing else we’ve ever experienced. He becomes the best part of everything we do. He is the reason for our secret smile and spontaneous song. He is the unexpected blessing we give or kind word we share. His love is so powerful that keeping it inside us is impossible.
