When I listen to God, opportunity blossoms amongst the wreckage of my failed plans. The more I constantly listen to God, the less my plans fail because His plan become mine and He never fails. When the plans are mine and they hit a wall, my typical reaction is to get frustrated and desperately attempt to solve the problem on my own. I try to find MY way around the wall rather than ask God for wisdom. When I ask for His wisdom, sometimes the only answer I get is the calming my self-willed heart. God knows what I don’t–that my plan is bad. Sometimes, He shows me a better way around the wall and other times, He simply shows me the murky pit waiting on the backside of my own plans. Let’s be clear, listening to God isn’t about having less drive and motivation to solve problems or achieve goals; rather, it’s developing a listening heart for HIS way. He makes our perseverance more efficient and effective. Listening to God is about learning to access His thoughts and ways. He teaches us to set and attain goals greater than anything we ever imagined. When we listen to God, we LIVE in a path of wisdom which is far more magnificent than our own. His Word says, “’For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:16) When we become His child, we inherit His wisdom. God is so very generous with His wisdom! His Word says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:5) What a great invitation—to seek and KNOW the mind of God! There is no greater opportunity which lies before us today than living in the wisdom of God’s success. We have been given the gift of God’s mind–He is just waiting for us to seek Him and open it!
