Have you ever been in a relationship with someone you couldn’t satisfy? You were never good enough? They always wanted more? Whether it’s parent/child, husband/wife, employer/employee, attorney/client, or whatever the nature of the relationship–we need to remember that WE can’t satisfy another because we’re ALL created to crave God. So many of us try. We’re in relationships where, for years, we prostrate ourselves to please another person—only to find we fail. Our mistake is thinking WE can satisfy them. Rather than pouring out our life to do the impossible, we need to show them what true and lasting satisfaction looks like. But–we can’t show them what we don’t have.

If our soul is restless and has never been satisfied by Christ, how will they know His satisfaction exists? When we truly know Him, we don’t want to ever live without Him. We awake wanting Him: “As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.” (‭Psalms‬ ‭17:15‬) He provides continual satisfaction: “The Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” (Isaiah 58:11) Do these verses describe the satisfaction you’re experiencing in God? If not, then you’ve never drawn close enough to Him to know Him. He satisfies completely.

To be satisfied by Him, we must pursue Him above all else. When we discover satisfaction in Him, we crave Him. The best satisfaction we can ever give another is not found in the wealth of the world or pleasures of the flesh; rather, it is teaching them to know their Creator. Instead of wearing ourselves out to please others, we should passionately pursue God and demonstrate the experience of our own satisfaction in Him. We can’t give it unless we have it–how much bread can a starving man give away–right? Our most satisfying relationships with others are rooted in our relationship with Christ. He is the only supreme satisfaction we can give others!
