When we are born again, God gives us a chest piled full of priceless treasure. When we grow in our friendship with Him, we begin to enjoy the gifts He placed inside it. The most priceless gifts–the ones money can’t buy–are peace, divine knowledge, absolute joy, endless love, emotional healing, etc. God offers these gifts to everyone who has accepted His gift of salvation. Some receive salvation but never open the box of God’s treasures; so, they live a miserable Christian life.

In my early twenties I received God’s gift of eternal life; but then, for the largest part of the next twenty years, I rarely used the treasures God had given me. When I finally began to search to know God, I discovered all the treasure my money couldn’t buy and the world couldn’t give me! All the things I’d been searching for–without Him–were already inside me. God put them there when He gave me His gift of salvation. However, because these gifts are HIS, they are only found in HIM! Every day that I choose to search out His heart and conform my life to His plan–I experience God’s treasure. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossians: “that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (‭Colossians‬ ‭2:2-3‬)

Knowing Him enlightens us to the wisdom of His ways. We long to seek Him. When we seek Him, we are filled with His Spirit. From His Spirit, flow His treasures–“love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness.” (‭Galatians‬ ‭5:22-23‬) When God becomes so precious to us that we’d rather have Him than our own will–or even our life–we discover the deepest, most meaningful reason for our existence. He is our greatest treasure! He treasures us so much that He gave His only Son so we could live.
