Since man’s fall in Eden, the world had been surrounded by all kinds of conflict—interpersonal, societal, national and global. In order to have true peace we must address the CAUSE of its demise. The cause is sin and we must realize that compromising our relationship with God will never give us lasting peace. In 1938 Prime Minister Chamberlain signed the Munich Pact with Hitler and declared that “peace with honor” had been achieved. Desperate for peace, Chamberlain brokered a really bad deal with the devil at Berchtesgaden! This is what we do when we compromise God’s plan or stray from His ways. God’s doesn’t make deals with the devil. We don’t have to either.

God’s peace within us begins when Christ cleanses our soul and rips the enemy of peace out by the roots. Furthermore, our peace flourishes when we are vigilant to guard the doors of our hearts and minds against the wiles of the enemy who continues to stalk us. The Book of Luke states that God, in His tender mercy, has given us the gift of peace! “Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Luke 1:78-79) Jesus knew of all the future crimes we would commit against His love, yet He still chose to become incarnate for our salvation and purchase our peace. That thought is so profound that we could spend the rest of our lives trying to absorb it and never completely comprehend it. He CHOSE to be born, suffer and die so that we might be reconciled to Him.

The deep and permanent peace we seek begins when we are reconciled to Him through salvation and it continues when our heart is submitted to Him in love. Jesus promised us, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John‬ ‭14:27‬) Peace is a priceless gift born of our reconciliation with God!
