As the New Year approaches, I’m always inspired to make new goals. As my relationship with Christ grows, my goals continue to change. They become tied to the same primary goal–glorifying Him. It is a remarkable experience! Before I knew God, if you’d told me that I’d ENJOY making Christlike goals–I wouldn’t have believed it. I’d always been in control. I believed myself wiser than God. However, as God transforms me from within, I’ve began thinking much differently!

Let me give you an example. Not long ago, God impressed upon my heart to spend less time practicing law. It wasn’t so I could have more “me” time, but rather, so I could make greater spiritual investments with my time. I was working at a frantic pace and the pressure was exhausting and left me very little quality time for anything else. Although, the financial aspect of cutting back my practice was very scary, God’s reassurance and peace gave me courage. He showed me the areas of my law practice to cut back and how to develop other areas that were more efficient. In fact, He even weeded out some financial black holes in my law office that I didn’t know were draining the coffers! The results were amazing! Now, when I see clients I’m able to slow down and also spend time ministering to them. I also have more time to develop other ministries like writing and music. In God’s will, I do more–with less!

Our desire to set Godly goals only comes from Him. Our flesh is demanding, thus, staying close to Him is an ongoing challenge. His Word says “to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” (‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:22-24) When we pursue God, He gives us goals which yield results greater than we imagine!
