We often think that our greatest battles are with external forces like cancer, other people, death, financial crises, etc., however, our most fierce war is within ourselves. The greatest battle is fought in our heart. When our heart fights against God’s way and His will–we lose. We must shoulder the weight of all our external battles and despair about how to pay the bills when there’s no money. Dread the next confrontation with our nemesis–and we lose our peace after we’ve been with them. We worry about our health crises anddespair about whether we’ll ever find the love of our life. Our battle, whatever it is–without God–becomes all ours.

It doesn’t have to be.

When our heart is in constant surrender to God–we win every battle because He fights them for us and–GOD NEVER LOSES. However, “winning” doesn’t always look like we think it should. When Jesus was dying in agony–it didn’t look like He was “winning.” But–God had a plan. His death gave us our life. Surrendering His life was proof He could conquer death. Surrendering our heart also gives us opportunities to prove God’s power. Every minute of the day, we have a choice: Surrender, and live in God’s power; or, fight against Him, and live in our own.

The Bible says, “be filled with THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIS WILL in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might.” (Colossians 1:9-11) Our surrender is a prerequisite to being filled with God’s power. He gives us LIVING faith instead of just lifeless words! Paul wrote: “My speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)

“Winning” on the battlefield of our heart is surrendering to Almighty God. When He rules, we win.
