When we are close to God, we have the power to be fearless. What does God have to be afraid of? Nothing. He is NOT afraid. Do we fear death, disease, heartbreak, financial disaster, career failure, peer pressure or loneliness? When I’m afraid, it’s because I’ve allowed sin to distance me from God. Evil is sneaky–it isn’t just doing what’s obviously wrong–it’s not doing what’s right; or–simply allowing doubt or worry to undermine our faith in God. Sin always separates us from God’s presence. He hates it. It cost His Son His life.

To be fearless, we must live close to God.

Daniel, an exiled slave, spent time with God three times a day. He became the king’s top advisor. The other advisors wanted to destroy him. They knew he worshipped God and thus, they had the king sign a law forbidding the worship of God. Daniel’s reaction wasn’t to hide. The Bible says, “When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.” (Daniel 6:10)

Even though he knew it meant his death, Daniel prayed with the windows OPEN. He knew God so well that the threat of death didn’t scare him. He knew his greatest strength was in God’s power. He’d already seen God make a powerless slave–the king’s chief advisor. God was much more real to Daniel than a pack of roaring, snarling lions!

The Bible says, “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.” (‭Proverbs‬ ‭28:1‬) When we purify our heart, we draw close to our righteous Father and–He fights our battles. When our heart becomes lost in His, our fear is lost. Our time with God is the most powerful time of our day! To live in God’s power, we must live in His presence. In His presence we are never afraid!
