A humble heart produces strength because it engages the presence of God. Pride separates us from God; in fact, He hates it. The Bible says: “Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord. (Proverbs‬ ‭16:5a)‬‬ It also says: “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.” (Proverbs‬ ‭11:2‬) ‭http://bible.com/59/pro.11.2.esv. If we wish to engage the power and wisdom of God in our life then we must develop a spirit of humility. What does that mean?

A proud heart isn’t JUST someone with a braggadocio mouth or a narcissistic personality. Pride is more subtle and pervasive than that. It extends to anyone who rejects God’s way or doubts God’s power. For example, if we choose to worry instead of trust Him, be afraid instead of seek His help, solve our problems without His help–then we are choosing the pride of our own way. However, when our heart is humble, we seek Him FIRST in all things because we know His way is ALWAYS better. Anytime we think our way is better than God’s, we are being foolishly arrogant. God hates it because He loves us and wants to give us all the goodness of His presence. However, when we seek Him first in all things and trust Him more than anyone, our heart becomes like a trusting child and then–God fills us with Himself.

When our heart is humble, God becomes part of everything we do. We don’t want to leave home without Him. He becomes the guide for our day. He speaks through us at work, in the grocery store, with our family, at the gym, or wherever we are. He guides our every destination. He works out the details better than we do. Humility is making God the King of our heart. When He is King, the kingdom of our heart is full of HIS power, wisdom, love, compassion, mercy and grace.
