I once heard a preacher say that faith is the mover of the mountains we create with our doubt. God used this to remind me that my mountains are made larger or smaller depending upon the object of my faith. We all have faith and–we all have mountains.

Our faith is manifested in nearly everything we do. We demonstrate faith in the smallest decisions in life: The plumbing will work when turn the faucet; our toothpaste won’t poison us; the water we drink isn’t polluted; other drivers on the interstate will follow the rules of the road, etc. We also demonstrate our faith in greater situations: We allow doctors we don’t know cut us open; we pay lawyers we don’t know to fight for our children; we vote for politicians we don’t know to solve the perilous problems of our nation; etc. We have no trouble exercising faith in inanimate objects and people we don’t know in many important areas, however, do we place this kind of faith in God? If our mountains seem too big to move it’s because we’ve placed our faith in things less than God.

Jesus said, “I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.’” (Matthew‬ ‭17:20‬b) Faith in God can not only move mountains, it can throw our mountain into the sea! Jesus said, “If you have faith and do not doubt…if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.” (‭Matthew ‭21‬:‭21-22‬a) What’s holding us back? We know how to exercise faith because we do it everyday with things and people who are much less worthy than God. We must have faith in Him above all else! When we get close to God, we know He is the most trustworthy object of our faith. His Presence eliminates ALL doubt and–our faith in Him makes us mountain movers!
